We have now set up a Crowdfunding page where RideforEric supporters can make donations and participants in this year’s event can circulate to their friends and family to sponsor them. All funds will be split between the RideforEric bereavement counselling service which is run by Cavendish Cancer Care and safe & inclusive cycling projects supported by RideforEric.
This year, we’ve got four rides to choose from… The Jaywing Fun 5k sets off on the Red Route at 11:00AM. The slightly more challenging Irwin Mitchell Occasional Rider Challenge 15k starts at 10:15AM on the Gold Route. The popular Tri Novice Tootle 50k gets underway at 09:30AM on the Green Route…
We are proud to announce the launch of the HydraHundred 100K ride as part of the RideforEric 2016 event. Following feedback from enthusiast supporters of previous RideforEric events who wanted to ride further, the new 100K route will challenge even the most hardy cyclist.
The addition of the new route is a testament to the growth of the event and the incredible support that we have received. So if you’re looking for an even bigger challenge this year, make sure you get the gel pads at the ready and sign up for the HydraHundred!
The inaugural Ride for Eric took place on Sunday 21st September 2014 and was organised by his friends, family and colleagues to mark the life of Eric Codling. Eric was killed by a reckless driver whilst out riding on Sunday 3rd November 2013. We ride to remember Eric and to highlight the need for safe space for cycling in Sheffield and beyond.
Ride for Eric created the
Ride for Eric aims to gain charitable status in its own right in the near future, and in doing so our objectives will change slightly, in 2016 we will once again be using entrance fees and sponsorship monies raised through the Ride for Eric bike ride to support the Bereavement Counselling Service run by Cavendish Cancer Care and also to provide funding for cycling safety and inclusion projects where people may need assistance to gain access to cycling activities.
Sponsored by Jaywing, this family friendly 5km route is an opportunity to enjoy a safe, marshalled ride at a leisurely pace, so bring the children and grandparents along. There will be prizes for best fancy dress and bike combination, as well as a prize for the person who raises the most sponsorship in this category.
The ride leaves Abbeydale Sports Club, travels along Abbeydale Road South, turns left into Dobcroft Avenue, and left into Whirlowdale Road where refreshments will be provided at the stopping area in the woods. The ride then continues along Whirlowdale Road and down Abbey Lane before turning back onto Abbeydale Road South to return to Abbeydale Sports Club.
Sponsored by Irwin Mitchell, the 15k is great for the occasional rider who wants a challenge, or the frequent rider who simply wants to take in some of the lovely scenery around Sheffield.
Following the course of the 5k as far as Ecclesall Woods, the ride then turns right into Abbey Lane, going on to Park Head, Bents Green, and Ringinglow, before turning down Long Line and dropping into Dore.
From here the ride follows the lovely Old Hay Lane, to join Baslow Road. The rest of the ride down Abbeydale Road South, is, as they say, (thankfully), all downhill!
If you cycle regularly – perhaps as part of a club or you just want to challenge yourself – then this route through Sheffield and Derbyshire is for you. Follow the 5k and the 15k routes before heading off further into the countryside. The route map says it all.
We need people to ride with us, support us as volunteers on the day of the event, and carry out fundraising activities. If you’d like to get involved and help develop Ride for Eric for 2016 and future years, please drop us an email at email@example.com. Thanks!
Stay informed on new causes and up-coming organization updates. Don’t miss things!
A really enjoyable and very worthwhile day.
Well done to you and all who organised it.
I’m sure Eric would have been very proud of what you and the team undertook in his memory.
I would like to say that Ride for Eric is an incredible event, and a fitting memorial to a great man. I hope that it runs again next year, and for many years to come, and I will certainly be attending next year
We were impressed with how laid back the event was (even with live traffic in the car park!) Great organising by your team and we were proud to be a part of it
I really enjoyed being part of a safe, well organised and enjoyable event with lots of camaraderie and a common purpose – I’ll be there for Ride for Eric 2015!
Thank you for giving up your time for such worthy causes and it was a pleasure for me and Jim to be a small part of it. We look forward to taking party next year (me hopefully doing the 50k – I’m in training for it already!!)
Here’s to next year!
